 Frequently Asked Questions

  • Think of this as the beginning of your journey to evolve emotionally and mentally. During this first meeting with your clinician, you’re encouraged to share whatever you’re comfortable with—this helps lay the foundation for our work together. Since there’s often a lot to cover in this first meeting, this may be one of the few times your clinician takes notes during the session—to ensure important details are captured accurately. Additionally, you can expect this session to last 60 minutes.

  • The initial consultation call is a short phone call (about 15 minutes) where the prospective client and clinician can get to know each other and see if it feels like a good fit—no pressure, no cost. Since therapy is a relational process, it's important to find someone you genuinely connect with. If it doesn’t feel right, we will gladly help you find another therapist who might be a better match.

  • When beginning therapy, we recommend meeting weekly for the first several weeks to build rapport and establish a strong foundation. As therapy progresses, many clients transition to meeting every other week. Standard return sessions are about 53 minutes long, though shorter sessions can be arranged if needed. You and your clinician will regularly check in and adjust the meeting frequency based on your needs and goals.

  • Evolving Mindsets, PLLC. requires at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. This policy helps protect both your clinician’s time and ensures that other clients who may be waiting for an appointment have the opportunity to be seen. Late cancellations or missed appointments make it difficult to offer that time to someone else in need.

If a session is canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice or is a no show, the client is charged a $100 fee.

  • Evolving Mindsets, PLLC is currently in-network with Aetna (including State Health Plan), Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare/Optum employer based insurance plans. We are NOT in-network with Medicaid or Medicare plans, and may or may not be in-network with Marketplace (ACA) plans.

It is the client’s responsibility to verify their insurance coverage and confirm that Evolving Mindsets, PLLC. is in-network prior to beginning services. If services are rendered without confirming coverage, and it is later determined that we are not in-network, the client will be responsible for the full cost of the session.

  • When you complete the intake paperwork you agree to enroll in automatic payments with the understanding that your card on file will be charged the day services are rendered (if not filing with insurance), OR periodically as claims are processed; the amount equal to any outstanding account balance.

Statements are emailed to you as soon as they are generated. It is important to know that Simple Practice generates a $0 invoice immediately after a session until insurance has been processed; meaning nothing is due at that time for the service but please do not confuse that as the final bill. Please review the invoices as soon as possible as payment will follow.

  • A number of benefits are available from participating in therapy. Therapists can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, grief, stress management, body image issues and creative blocks. Many people also find that counselors can be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the hassles of daily life. Therapists can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution. The benefits you obtain from therapy depend on how well you use the process and put into practice what you learn. Some of the benefits available from therapy include:

    • Attaining a better understanding of yourself, your goals and values

    • Developing skills for improving your relationships

    • Finding resolution to the issues or concerns that led you to seek therapy

    • Learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety

    • Managing anger, grief, depression, and other emotional pressures

    • Improving communications and listening skills

    • Changing old behavior patterns and developing new ones

    • Discovering new ways to solve problems in your family or marriage

    • Improving your self-esteem and boosting self-confidence

  • Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be admired. You are taking responsibility by accepting where you're at in life and making a commitment to change the situation by seeking therapy. Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, giving you the tools you need to avoid triggers, re-direct damaging patterns, and overcome whatever challenges you face.

  • It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behavior patterns that curb our progress. You can best achieve sustainable growth and a greater sense of well-being with an integrative approach to wellness. Working with your medical doctor you can determine what's best for you, and in some cases a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action.

  • The connection between client and therapist plays a key role in the success of therapy. We might not be the right fit for everyone—and that’s absolutely okay. If something feels off, don’t hesitate to talk about it. It could be a communication or style issue, or it might be that a different provider would better support your needs. Our priority is to foster a space where you can be fully yourself, even if that means helping you connect with someone who’s a better match.

You'll also have regular check-ins on your goals to ensure therapy remains centered on what matters most to you. If at any point progress feels stuck or the fit doesn’t feel right, we’ll talk about it. Therapy is a collaborative process, and we’ll work together to adjust the approach as needed. When appropriate, we can also explore other options or connect you with a provider who may be a better fit for your needs.
